Chicago’s best kept secret?

Friend’s, family and clients always ask us where to have an event. “What’s new? What’s cool? What’s really Chicago?” Over the past couple of years it’s been refreshing to be able to provide them new recommendations as new venues have been popping up in neighborhood’s all over the city. Morgan’s on Fulton, Morgan Manufacturing and Moonlight Studios are a few new additions (just to name a few) to the special event scene that has provided the hip urban setting the city has needed. Morgan’s on Fulton and Morgan Manufacturing with their roof top decks and views of the city skyline are special event nirvana along with those at the Adler Planetarium.

The litany of new venues often makes us forget the special event treasures right in front of us that are often overlook. The Field Museum for instance. The Field Museum? You may say this is on the top of every list for special events. While I would agree Chicago’s most well-known venue with enduring images Princess Diana also has some of the city’s best kept special event secrets.

Here’s Chicago’s recent summer soirée reminded us that there is no better view of the city then from the Museum’s north terrace. Whether a wedding ceremony, company picnic or cocktail party a tent on the north terrace provides spectacular views of the city that people often forget. The Museum’s intimate library provides a little know space, among Audubon’s original books of drawings, perfect for impressing a small group or providing a special backdrop for an important dinner. The Field’s newest permanent exhibition, Cyrus Tang Hall of China, provides views of the lake among textiles, rubbings, bronzes, ceramics, and sculpture of one of the world’s most influential civilizations. James Simpson Theater is large enough to accommodate 700 guests day or night with state of the art cinema projection and sound. The museum actually houses over 20 different venues that meet a multitude of meeting and special event needs.

So while Stanley Field Hall may be the most thought of and iconic site for the most special of events when people ask what’s new, cool and really Chicago the Field Museum is an answer that comes to my mind and may be one of the best kept venue secrets in the City.
