RECIPE: Thanksgiving Affogato
Beginning at Thanksgiving, our holiday season is filled with cozy holiday moments. We surround ourselves with good people and great food sitting at the center of warm conversations. An affogato is just the kind of conversation piece custom built for moments like these!
Affogato, loosely translated from Italian, means “drowned,” as in rich gelato or ice cream, immersed in a pool of espresso or coffee. Where you take it from there is what makes this indulgent dessert-cocktail crossover so appealing no matter the company or season. You choose the ice cream, the liqueur, and the garnish. And you make it perfect for the moment!
At Thanksgiving, try pumpkin ice cream, nutty Frangelico liqueur, and a dusting of graham cracker crust. Over the winter holidays, try vanilla ice cream with Bailey’s Irish Cream or Crème de Menthe and cocoa shavings. Or, set up a bar for your friends to customize their own creations.
- 1 Part Coffee, Brewed at Double-Strength
- 1 Part Liqueur, like Amaretto, Frangelico, or Baileys Irish Cream
- 2 Tbsp Sweetened Condensed Milk
- Ice Cream
- Your Favorite Biscotti
- Whipped Cream
- Chocolate Shavings, Crushed Cookies or Crushed Graham Cracker
Fill shaker half way with ice. Add equal parts coffee, your favorite liqueur, and two tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk. Shake and strain over 1 scoop of ice cream in a coupe glass or small bowl. Top with whipped cream, a biscotti, and a your favorite sweet dusting garnish. Don’t forget the spoons!
